Engaging Leaders for a Better Lagos: My Vision for 2027
As I continue my journey towards becoming the next governor of Lagos State, I understand the importance of engaging with key leaders in our community. Today, I had the privilege of meeting with Otunba Fashawe, a close ally of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Our discussions were centered around the #Laja4BetterLagos2027 agenda, which aims to lay the groundwork for a prosperous and inclusive future for all Lagosians.
Vision
My vision for Lagos is rooted in the belief that every resident deserves access to opportunities that empower them and enhance their quality of life. I envision a Lagos where our roads are safe and well-maintained, where education is accessible and of high quality, and where health services are within reach of every community—from the bustling streets of Ikoyi to the vibrant heart of Mushin.
I see a Lagos where economic opportunities are not just for the privileged few but are available to all, regardless of their socio-economic background. I am committed to building a state that thrives on inclusivity and equal opportunity, where each community, from Ikorodu to Victoria Island, has a stake in our collective success.
Specific Plans
To turn this vision into reality, I will implement a series of specific plans that address our most pressing challenges:
- Infrastructure Development: I will create a task force dedicated to the rehabilitation and expansion of major roads, including the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and the Lekki-Epe Expressway. We will ensure these roads are equipped with proper lighting and traffic management systems to enhance safety.
- Education Reform: My government will prioritize the renovation of public schools in areas like Alimosho and Surulere, ensuring they are equipped with modern facilities, trained teachers, and access to e-learning resources. We will also promote vocational training programs to empower our youth.
- Healthcare Accessibility: I promise to increase the number of primary health care centers in under-served areas, such as Badagry and Epe. My administration will collaborate with private healthcare providers to enhance service delivery and ensure affordability.
- Job Creation and Economic Empowerment: I will launch the Lagos Employment Initiative, aimed at providing skills training and job placement services for young people. This initiative will focus on sectors like technology, agriculture, and tourism, particularly in areas like Ikeja and Lagos Island.
- Environmental Sustainability: I will implement a comprehensive waste management plan that includes the installation of recycling bins in every community. We will work towards a cleaner Lagos, with initiatives to restore our waterways and green spaces, especially in areas like Lagos Mainland.
Timeline
My timeline for these initiatives is ambitious yet achievable. Within the first 100 days of my administration, I will establish the task forces for infrastructure and education reform. By the end of the first year, we will have launched the Lagos Employment Initiative and completed the renovation of at least 50 public schools.
As we progress, I will ensure regular updates to the public on our achievements and challenges. Accountability and transparency will be the hallmarks of my administration.
