Vision: A Thriving Lagos for Everyone
As I continue my journey towards the governorship of Lagos State, I am filled with hope and determination. Today, I had the honor of meeting with Otunba Fashawe, a close ally of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Our discussion was not just a meeting; it was a vital part of our stakeholder consultations, focusing on our #Laja4BetterLagos2027 agenda. I am committed to engaging with key leaders to shape a brighter future for our great state.
Specific Plans: Building a Better Lagos
My vision for Lagos is bold and comprehensive. I will create a Lagos where every resident has the opportunity to thrive, where our streets are safe, and where our communities are connected. Here’s how I plan to achieve this:
- Infrastructure Development: My government will prioritize the rehabilitation of critical roads such as the Ikorodu Road and the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. We will implement a systematic road maintenance program to ensure that every street in communities such as Ikorodu, Badagry, and Victoria Island is accessible and well-maintained.
- Public Transportation: I promise to revolutionize public transport in Lagos. I will create a comprehensive bus rapid transit system that connects remote communities to major commercial hubs, reducing congestion and improving the daily commute for Lagosians.
- Education Access: Education is the backbone of our future. I will invest in building new schools in under-served areas like Ajegunle and Mushin, ensuring that every child has access to quality education. My government will also introduce scholarship programs for secondary and tertiary education, focusing on students from low-income families.
- Healthcare Improvements: I will strengthen our healthcare system by establishing more primary health care centers in areas like Epe and Lekki. My government will ensure that healthcare is affordable and accessible to every Lagosian, regardless of their socio-economic status.
- Job Creation: I will create a job creation initiative that focuses on empowering our youth. By partnering with local businesses and investing in vocational training programs, I will provide our young people with the skills they need to succeed and thrive.
Timeline: From Vision to Reality
I understand that change does not happen overnight; it requires careful planning and execution. Therefore, I have set a clear timeline for the implementation of these initiatives:
- Year 1: Conduct thorough assessments of existing infrastructure and healthcare facilities, followed by immediate repairs and upgrades.
- Year 2: Launch the public transport initiative and open at least 10 new primary health care centers.
- Year 3: Begin the construction of new schools in targeted communities and initiate the job creation program.
- Year 4: Assess the impact of all programs, make necessary adjustments, and ensure sustainability for future growth.
