Engaging with Key Stakeholders for a Better Lagos
As your next governor, I believe in the power of collaboration and community. Today, I had the honor of meeting with Otunba Fashawe, a close ally of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, right here in Lagos. This meeting was an essential part of my ongoing stakeholder consultations, which aim to engage key leaders in shaping our #Laja4BetterLagos2027 agenda. I am incredibly passionate about transforming Lagos into a city where every citizen can thrive, and I am excited to share my vision and specific plans to achieve this.
My Vision for Lagos
My vision for Lagos is built on the foundation of inclusivity, transparency, and sustainable development. I see a Lagos where our streets are clean, our neighborhoods are safe, and every resident, from Ikorodu to Victoria Island, feels empowered to contribute to the growth of our great state. My government will prioritize education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation, ensuring that every community benefits from our collective progress.
Specific Plans to Bring This Vision to Life
To turn this vision into reality, I promise to implement a series of targeted initiatives:
- Education Reform: I will create a comprehensive education plan that focuses on improving public schools in areas like Alimosho and Surulere. This includes training teachers, upgrading facilities, and providing free textbooks and learning materials for all primary and secondary school students.
- Healthcare Access: My government will launch a health initiative aimed at providing free healthcare services to underprivileged communities, including Agege and Ifako-Ijaiye. We will build new health centers and improve existing ones, ensuring that every Lagosian has access to quality healthcare.
- Infrastructure Development: I will prioritize road repairs and expansion projects on critical routes such as the Lekki-Epe Expressway and the Third Mainland Bridge. By 2025, I aim to reduce traffic congestion in these areas by 30% through smart traffic management systems and improved public transportation options.
- Job Creation: I will create a Lagos Employment Fund dedicated to supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs in communities like Ikoyi and Lagos Island. This fund will provide low-interest loans and training programs to help them thrive and create jobs for others.
Timeline for Implementation
My approach to governance will be systematic and transparent, with clear timelines for each initiative. I plan to roll out the education reform program within the first six months of taking office, followed by the healthcare access initiatives within the first year. Infrastructure projects will begin in the second year, with a focus on engaging local communities in the planning process to ensure that their needs are met. Finally, the job creation programs will be launched in tandem with the infrastructure projects, fostering a cycle of growth and opportunity.
